The Nork Fork Valley area is named for the Nork Fork Gunnison River, known by locals as the North Fork. A tributary of the Gunnison River, the Nork Fork flows southwest past the towns of Somerset, Paonia, and Hotchkiss. This area is part of Delta County.

The North Fork Valley has long been a fruit-growing center as well as a regional center for the coal mining industry.

Today the North Fork Valley is known for ranching, organic farming, wineries and vineyards, and a wealth of outdoor activities including some of the best hunting and fishing in the state.
